In today’s turbulent political climate, the work that is done by social justice organizations is vitally important. If it weren’t for the dedicated activists and groups that support and advance various social causes, social injustices would be allowed to occur more frequently in America.

Through the years, the ACLU has defended many individuals and groups whose personal freedoms have been compromised. Due to the efforts of this organization, several landmark legal decisions that affect the lives of most American citizens have been formed. In recent years, the ACLU has seen an increase in its membership numbers, and now has more than one million members.
The American Friends Service Committee is an organization that promotes non-violence, and works to overcome discrimination and oppression. Sometimes known as Quakers, the members of this group are active in the U.S., as well as in more than a dozen other countries.
In recent years, a non-profit organization named the Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund has established itself as a particularly useful resource for residents of the U.S. state of Arizona.
The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund is named for Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, two highly accomplished journalists from the Phoenix, Arizona area. The co-founders of the Phoenix New Times newspaper, and the Village Voice Media company, Larkin and Lacey are devoted to promoting human rights, immigrant rights and freedom of speech.
In 2007, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey were wrongfully arrested for simply reporting about grand jury subpoenas that concerned their own publication. After an appellate court ruled that there was no probable cause for their arrest, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin were awarded a $3.7 million settlement.
The two reporters wanted to use the settlement money to help other human beings, so they established the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund in 2013.
Believing that Mexican and other immigrants in Arizona have experienced large amounts of discrimination, the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund is largely focused on protecting the rights of immigrants.
