Eric Lefkofsky has been an entrepreneur for over twenty years. He has opened several companies in the tech industry during that time. His biggest success to date was launching Groupon which he co-founded in January 2007. Other successful businesses he has co-founded or founded are Echo Global Logistics, Mediabank, Lightbank, and Uptake among others.He is now the chief executive officer of Chicago-based Tempus, Inc., a company he founded in 2015. This company collects data about patients in regards to past cancer treatments and uses that data to help oncologists treat their own patients in a much more individualized way, increasing the odds of successful treatment. He has partnered with hospitals and universities across the country.
His platform uses machine learning which can interpret far more data than any group of people ever could. This platform provides doctors with a way to make real-time decisions that are based on an enormous amount of data. Eric Lefkofsky also believes in giving back. He is a great philanthropist and along with his wife they signed The Giving Pledge which means they have promised to donate most of their wealth to charity. They also formed the Lefkofsky Foundation through which they donate their money.
The stated purpose of this foundation is to focus charitable efforts on educational and scientific global causes with those affecting children the primary concern.They have donated money to over 50 charitable organizations to date. Among these are the American Civil Liberties Unions, Everytown for Gun Safety, the Academy for Urban School, Teach for America, the American Brain Tumor Association, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Aspen Art Museum, and The Renaissance Society. Eric Lefkofsky and his wife provide funds to charitable organizations that are local, regional, and global in nature.
