Eric Lefkosky is the co-founder and CEO of Tempus. The U.S. businessman and entrepreneur has also founded enterprises that include: Groupon, Echo Global Logistics (ECHO), InnerWorkings (INWK), and Uptake.Though born in Detroit, he was raised in Southfield, Michigan. He would go on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School. It was at the university where he realized he had a natural talent for being an entrepreneur. While attending he sold carpet to other students and teachers.It wasn’t until 1999 that Lefkosky got his first taste of true entrepreneurial success. He and his fellow classmate, Brad Keywell, founded internet company Starbelly. In just a short year the company went through a rapid financial growth and was acquired by Halo Industries.
Five years later the pair founded Echo Global Logistics, a freight logistics company. New Enterprise Associates (NEA) was intrigued by the potential of ECHO and decided provide series D financing for the company, which was a huge deal considering NEA was one of the largest technology investors in the country at that time. Today, ECHO is still being traded on the NASDAQ.Lefkosky later co-founded online collective action website Groupon. Groupon became the fastest growing company in history according to Forbes in 2010.
Last year, he co-founded Tempus, a technology company that has built an operating system to battle cancer. He also serves as the company’s CEO. Tempus is sort of a culmination of all the charitable donations Lefkosky has made towards cancer research throughout his career. After years of contributing funds to fesearch he’s decided to take a more hands on approach by creating Tempus. He wants to use the startup to change the landscape of cancer treatment around the world. The technology company hopes to modernize and personalize cancer treatment by being able to analyze a patient’s genetic code in the context of molecular therapies.Lefkosky and his wife formed the Lefkofsky Family Foundation in 2006. They have consistently donated funds to charitable causes that work to make the world a better place. He and his wife are also members of the Giving Pledge.
