Plastic surgery is one of the complex medical procedures in the medical field. It is a male dominated field with over 8, 100 Board-certified surgeons in the USA, only 851 are women. For women who make it to cosmetic plastic surgery is a rarity and one such a woman is Dr. Jennifer Walden from Austin Texas.
She gives her opinion on why there are few women in plastic surgery and says that it is because of the length of time it takes for one to become a fully-fledged plastic surgeon. One has to go through post-medical school which takes at least five years and then one to two years of fellowship before becoming a surgeon. All this means delaying childbearing for women. Her reason for undertaking plastic surgery is to empower women through her work. Surgery builds up the self-confidence by helping them improve their appearances.
