There are various ways people can determine if a company values the welfare of people around it or just focuses on making a profit. One way of doing that is looking at how a company responds to disaster situations. In 2017 for instance, Houston together with its Texas environs was hit by Hurricane Harvey. Streets were flooded, homes were swept away and accessing basic needs such as food and shelter was a nightmare. Lucky enough, various Houston companies came to the rescue of the hurricane’s victims. Major contributors were H-E-B and Houston Food Bank without forgetting Nabors Industries who also responded fast enough to the disaster.
How Nabors Industries Responded to the Disaster
On a normal day, Nabors Industries employees are seen taking their food close to their workplace barbecue pit. They perform different types of activities trying to ensure that they meet the goals set by their company. Nonetheless, they are also often found engaging in corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects such as fundraising, community work, and other special events. Nabors Industries has made the art of giving back to the society its culture and Toney Petrello; the companies Chief Executive Officer has ensured that the practice continues.
When Hurricane Harvey struck Houston, Nabors Industries employees were allowed to go and help in relief efforts for the victims. Petrello says that the company was ready to offer help whenever they were called upon. Besides, the company decided to pay all employees for the time they spent doing relief work. Employees were sent to various affected areas along the Gulf Coast. According to Petrello, the Company’s contributions alone towards helping the victims totaled to $173,622 minus his contribution.
The company had set up a relief fund known as Nabors Disaster Relief Fund and all the money was channeled to providing basic needs to the victims. As if that was not enough, Nabors industries also set up an on-site kitchen which was used to prepare hot meals three times daily and distributed to all those who were affected.
Anthony Petrello is not new to philanthropy. Any person who attends charitable events must have seen or heard about Patrello. He has a big heart and has been known for helping the needy especially within Houston City which also happens to be his hometown despite the fact that he hails from New Jersey. Together with his wife Cynthia who she met in college, the two have dedicated their lives towards helping the needy in the society.
